Last night, we appeared on BBC Points West where we were asked to comment on Gloucester City Council's proposal for its constituents to switch to oat milk from cows milk as they believe it to be more sustainable.
We WHOLLY disagree with this. We believe locally produced dairy milk is the best choice for both our community in terms of health and employment and the environment.
š Sustainability: The program cited misleading figures regarding dairy milk's carbon footprint. Our recent carbon audit (done yearly) revealed that our milk production generates only 0.93kg of CO2 per litre of milk. This is lower than the average for UK dairy milk (1.25kg CO2/liter) and significantly lower than the figure presented on the program of 3.15 (which is a global figure NOT UK).
šŖ Nutrition: Real milk is a natural powerhouse of essential nutrients, providing vital vitamins and minerals for a healthy lifestyle. Wholly Milk is also high in A2 protein which is kinder on the gut. (More info in blog). Oat milk as well as other plant alternatives are a processed product containing seed oils which we believe are inflammatory and worse for your health.
šØš¼āš¾ Supporting Local Farmers: Choosing locally sourced milk directly supports our hardworking farmers and strengthens our local economy whist minimising food miles. Amongst a huge amount of benefits to our landscape the soil structure is supported by the compost provided by our herd.
I'm rambling on here but the jist of it is if you want to the best quality milk buy your milk locally from local farmers and don't be made to feel guilty for it with misreading partial information.
Thanks to all the people who have been in contact to vouch their support for dairy farmers - we really appreciate it!
